Tiller Trouble and Quick Fix

As the weather continues hot and dry, we've all been sunburned and sweaty, but the outdoors continues to call. It's amazing to me how scorching hot 80 degrees feels after a winter indoors.

I transplanted raspberries yesterday, getting the ground cleared for the tiller.

Phil tilled most of one section yesterday before the tiller suddenly quit working. Early this morning, Phil opened up the tiller and found one of the bolts must have worked its way free, which caused one of the gears to fall off. No wonder it wasn't working! It was interesting to see the gear box: once Phil bought the bolt and put the cover back on, he refilled it with oil. (The bolt working loose was not due to negligence. The instruction manual didn't even mention trying to do routine work in the gear box. It's just one of those things.)

Then he finished tilling both areas.

Next, he broadcast a mix of clover, soybeans, vetch, then raked the seeds in by hand. Happily, this evening we had a gentle rain. Perhaps that will help the seeds set.

And Isaiah and Phil put together our new wheelbarrow. After the first one was stolen in the first few months we were here, we've been without. I'm happy to add that tool again.

In the greenhouse, I finally got rhubarb seeds planted today.

The puppies are adorable. They've been bouncing around; it's almost difficult to walk, for fear of stepping on a little bundle of energy. So fun!
