Not Hay Fever

When I had checked on Denise yesterday, she appeared to be ruminating, and if she was ruminating, that's eating. I gave her some aloe vera juice, and she seemed to swallow that, albeit a bit wheezily.

But I settled on "hay fever" as a diagnosis.

Phil came in around noon and said, "We've go to do something about that calf. She looks worse today." Scouring the reference books again, nothing really fit her symptoms, but between sinusitis and pneumonia, we figured we would bring her over to the former sheep fold, along with her mama, and give her some TLC.

Only about twenty minutes had passed before we made it back to the cattle area. We drove the van over and went to her, only to find that she had died. The first of the Milking Devons we've lost.

We've had enough death that there wasn't wailing or despair (well, not deep despair anyway). Just a grey day, an off day.

Boo.
