Happy 10-11-12!

Phil had finished moving the cows; the boys and I had finished two chapters about Pooh, and, having then finished Genesis as a family, we were about to go get breakfast when a dump truck rolled down the road. Our first delivery of the day.

The ridiculously nice truck driver seemed not at all phased that we hadn't quite rolled out the black plastic yet. Phil and I hurried to do that, and then the driver backed down, past the greenhouse. I watched the truck, filled with 20 tons of sand, back over our fertile slope. What a blessing it hasn't rained recently: the wheels made ruts, but didn't get stuck.

Watching that truck, maneuvering between excavation site and greenhouse, was so scary I had to leave. Isaiah took photos.

And then we had a "heap big pile" of sand, with only a few teaspoons touching the grass. The driver centered the sand beautifully.

He told us a crazy story about a day that he had a full load, and was driving on a farm road. The owners had recently cut down a tree, but when they backfilled it, it wasn't packed hard enough. His wheel sank in the unseen pit, and the truck tipped. There was a huge tree next to the road, and that kept the truck upright. Had the pit happened moments earlier, though, that tree might have saved the truck but crushed the driver.

We prepared for the next delivery.

That was gravel, about 12 cubic yards.

It made a beautiful shushing sound as it tumbled out.

Our farm road will have to route through a different way for now.

Phil realized that we do have enough board feet to fully frame all the foundation. What a relief not to have to saw some more right now.

It wasn't until about 4pm that we had all orders placed, all boards in place, all farm chores done, trampoline moved to a flat area, and all tools ready. From 4pm to almost 6, Phil and I finished one long side of foundation support.

We began a second side, too, before we had to finish for the evening. What a joy to actually do some physical work.

Isaiah and Joe spent the entire afternoon on the sand pile. By the evening it was completely transformed.

What a perfect play place.
